Cambridge Skating Club Rules

Member Sign-In Procedures
In order to ensure a safe and congenial atmosphere, members are required to enter their first and last names in the Member-Guest Register at Willard Street and the BB&N rink. For families, we require that one adult member sign in and indicate the number of family members present.

Guest Policies
Members must sign in all guests, providing the guest’s first and last name. Please take care to be sure that guest names correspond to the host’s name. Guest fees are as follows:

The children’s fee applies to juniors 18 years and under. Members will be invoiced for guest fees at the end of the season.

An individual guest may attend no more than three times per season with the exception of Wednesday evening general skating and hockey at BB&N.

Special arrangements for out-of-town visitors may be made in advance by contacting the club’s administrative manager.

Children under 12
Children under 12 years of age must be in the care of an adult or responsible person. The staff should not be asked to watch young children.

General Ice Rules
No fast tearing around or cutting in and out at Willard Street or the BB&N rink.

No hockey sticks in the general skating area at Willard Street or during general skating at the BB&N rink.

No spirals, jumps, or camel spins during general skating at the BB&N rink.

Under no circumstances will unsociable conduct or skating to endanger the safety of others be permitted.

Ice supervisors may remind any member disregarding these rules and, if necessary, ask them to leave the ice. Any continuing problems will be brought to the attention of the club’s board for further action, including revocation of membership privileges.

The club’s informal, friendly environment has prevailed for generations and is based on mutual consideration. The rules exist as guidelines to assure the safety and enjoyment of the club by all members.

Safety for Infants, Toddlers and Beginning Skaters
Skaters may not carry infants or children on the ice at Willard Street or BB&N.

Willard Street: Sleds, small wooden chairs or plastic crates are permitted on the ice for small children learning to skate. These items may only be used under adult supervision. Skates must be worn on the ice.

BB&N: Sleds, baby carriages, chairs, and crates are not allowed. Skates must be worn on the ice.

Willard Street Pond Hockey
Ice permitting, pond hockey is played at the far end of the ice. CSC pond hockey is played with tennis balls; pucks are not allowed. Junior members must wear helmets with face guards; adult members are advised to do so. Small children may practice hockey with tennis balls in the alcove by the clubhouse.

No Food or Beverages on the Ice
Food and beverages are prohibited from the ice at Willard Street and BB&N. Spilled beverages and dropped food (as well as cups and wrappers) mar the ice, can be difficult to remove, and are a safety hazard to skaters.

Rinkside Rules at BB&N
Food and beverages are allowed only in the area around the bleachers. Members are asked to take care to dispose of cups and plates properly.

Please note: BB&N’s rules specify that food and beverages are not allowed in the changing rooms.

Cell Phone Use
We ask members and guests to seek a quiet corner when they must use their cell phones in the clubhouse. Cell phone use on the ice is discouraged.

Emergency Procedures
In case of emergency, the staffer on duty will call the telephone number(s) provided on the membership renewal form. Please update the club’s adminstrator if your emergency contact information changes during the skating season.

If a responsible person cannot be reached, or if it is deemed necessary, an injured person will be taken to the Mount Auburn Hospital for emergency treatment.
